The Egg and the Swan chair from 1958 were developed for the lobby and reception areas at the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen designed by Arne Jacobsen in the late 50s. The technologically innovative lounge chair originated in Arne Jacobsen’s garage, cast in plaster. Today the synthetic shell is padded with cold foam and covered with fabric or leather resting on a star-shaped aluminium base. The Egg chair is also available with a ottoman/footrest.
The foam for the upholstery and the seat cushion is cold cured polyurethane foam. Standard fabrics for the Egg include Kvadrat Hallingdal (70% wool and 30% viscose), Tonus (90% wool and 10% nylon), Bass (92% worsted wool and 8% nylon) and Topas (100% pure worsted wool) as well as leather.
